Lensky Gallery is proud to present the latest collection of photographic works by Sharon Boothroyd. Sharon is a photographic artist based in Oxford. Originally from Northern Ireland, her work is concerned with human experiences and stories. Working with medium format film and complex lighting structures, her style is to reconstruct moments from memories in a cinematic manner. In the creation of the image she draws upon the emotions she discerns from her subjects in the research stages of her work. She prefers to spend time with her subjects and portray their story in her images, thereby incorporating the subject into the artist's vision. Even in the chance encounters of Disrupted Vision, the subject's voice is extremely important to Sharon.
Sharon is the recipient of prestigious awards in the UK and America including the Royal Photographic Society, Arts Council England and the International Photography Awards. She has also been featured in photography publications such as The Lucie Awards and Royal Photographic Society Journal.
Sharon lectures in photography on the BA (Hons) degree at Banbury, with De Montford University. She gained an MA in Photographic Studies from Westminster University under Mitra Tabrizian and David Bate. She also received a First Class BA Hons. from Northumbria University in Contemporary Photographic Practice before going on to complete a fellowship, which was awarded an Individual Artist's Grant. She was the artist-in-residence in an educational collaboration with the Arts Council and Ponteland First School in Newcastle.
Sharon currently lives in Oxford with her husband and two young children.
